The results are in, the votes are counted and while it was a close race, the winners of "Decision '08" are now finally clear. No, not that other decision. WeSay is prepared to declare the winners of our own historic contest, WeSay's Best of Citizen Photojournalism Contest.
Nearly 1,000 images were submitted to six main categories and six alternative categories. We loved all of the entries and our judges were faced with the tough decision to pick just six grand-prize winners. It was so tough in fact we picked several additional honorable mention award winners to showcase more of the great images that stood out to us.
Fittingly, our overall winner submitted a photograph with a political theme. Congratulations to Brian Priebe of St. Paul, Minnesota for winning first place with his poignant photograph of riot police pepper spraying a demonstrator holding a flower outside this year's Republican National Convention. It really is an amazing image! Priebe wins the first of three Apple 3G iPhones.
Murray Stanford of Cape Town, South Africa, and Teresa Hunt of Mt. Angel, Oregon placed second and third respectively and also win Apple 3G iPhones. Their powerful photos exemplify what WeSay.com is all about.
James Thorne, Luna Carlisle and Stephen Swofford won photo gift certificates for their photos and round out our prize winners.
Thanks once again to our sponsors and don't forget the special offers they created just for the contest. www.dotPhoto.com is giving away 50 FREE prints. www.Photographerswarehouse.com is offering a 10% discount on equipment. Enter "wesay" as the promo code.
